SMILE laser eye surgery is performed using the VisuMax femtosecond laser, Carl Zeiss Meditec's proprietary technology.

In the SMILE procedure, the surgeon uses a femtosecond laser to create a small, lens-shaped piece of tissue (lenticle) within the cornea.

Then, a small arc-shaped incision is made on the corneal surface with the same laser, and the surgeon removes and discards the lenticule from this incision.

When the tiny lenticule is removed, the shape of the cornea changes and myopia is corrected. The corneal incision heals in a few days without stitches and sharper vision is achieved very quickly.

SMILE laser eye surgery can correct -10.00 diopters (D) farsightedness. Candidates must be at least 22 years old and have astigmatism - no more than 0.50 D, and their eyeglasses must be stable for at least 12 months.
